Hello. This is Heartland Elementary School's principal Laura Alford.
At approximately 12:34 this afternoon, our school was put into a hard lockdown using our Raptor Technologies system. This system supplies district employees with security badges that have buttons that must be pressed multiple times during an emergency.
The button on a staff member's badge was pressed the appropriate number of times by accident, sending our school into lockdown.
Everything is fine and all is well. There is no need for our school to be on lockdown. The pressing of the button on the Raptor badge was a mistake.
We appreciate everyone's care for our students and staff. And, we are thankful to our first responders and staff who took the situation seriously.
Thank you for your support and dedication to our Heartland Elementary School family. Everyone have a great day.
Super Saturdays registration opens tonight at 5 pm!
Students in grades 1–6 who demonstrate high ability or a strong interest in a topic are invited to explore engaging, hands-on courses through The Center for Gifted Studies at WKU.
The fall session will be held October 17, 24, and 31, 2026.
Courses are filled on a first-come, first-served basis, so families are encouraged to register early.
View classes and register at https://www.wku.edu/gifted/super_saturdays/
Financial assistance is available.

REMINDER - There is NO SCHOOL on Monday, September 7, 2026 because of the Labor Day holiday.
Attention Heartland Elementary School Parents!
Thank you for encouraging your children to participate in our school lunch program!
Because our school participates in the federal Community Eligibility Provision (CEP) program, all students receive free lunch daily, regardless of family income.
I wanted to share a couple of areas where we need your attention:
Complete the CEP Form: Please submit this paperwork if you haven’t already. This data is critical for our school to secure essential funding from various sources.
You are not required to add money to MySchoolBucks at this time. When you complete the form, you will receive an automated email stating your status. Even though you may not qualify based on your income, please disregard the status. Since our school is CEP, lunch is still 100% free for children who attend our school.
If you have already added funds on MySchoolBucks, students can still use these funds to purchase any additional milk, sides, or entrees that they may want. These funds will stay on their account until used.
We appreciate your cooperation in helping us keep lunches free for everyone by participating in school lunch and completing the necessary paperwork.
If you have questions, please contact our Child Nutrition Department at 270-769-8877.
Thank you,
Laura Alford
Heartland Elementary School Principal
