What is a Family Resource Center?

The Heartland Family Resource Center (FRC) serves students and their families at Heartland Elementary School.  Family Resource Centers were created with the passage of the Kentucky Education Reform Act in 1990.  The primary goal of the HES FRC is to remove non-academic barriers to learning as a means to enhance student success in school. This is done by providing community services at the center and by linking families to agencies in the community.  Each center has an advisory council that consists of staff, parents, and community members.  The advisory council has the important role of helping develop, implement and enhance programs, serving as parent volunteers and supporting the FRC.  The FRC is committed to promoting a positive relationship between family, community and school.  I encourage you to participate in any FRC activity and/or school activity as often as you can.

The center’s mission is to enhance students’ abilities to success in school by developing and sustaining partnerships that promote:

  • Families in training

  • Parent resilience and involvement

  • Health services

  • Educational enrichment

  • Parent and child education

  • Family stabilization and support in times of need

  • School readiness

  • Social and emotional competence
